If you serve as a School Resource Officer, you already know the reality of the role. On any given day, you may be a police officer, educator, mentor, counselor, or crisis manager—sometimes all before lunch.
It’s challenging work, and it’s work that benefits from collaboration.
Over the years, I’ve built and collected a range of school safety resources designed specifically for SROs and the schools they support. These are materials developed through real-world experience at the intersection of education, law enforcement, and school safety and are resources I’m always willing to share with fellow professionals.
What Kind of Resources?
These aren’t theory-heavy presentations meant to sit on a shelf. They’re practical tools that can be adapted to your schools and your community.
Exercises and Drills
- Age-appropriate safety drills
- Tabletop exercises for schools and districts
- Scenario-based discussions for staff and students
- Exercises aligned with ICS, threat assessment practices, and emergency operations planning
The goal is preparation and confidence, not fear.
Classroom Lesson Plans (Age-Appropriate)
I also have lesson plans that teachers can use — often in partnership with their SRO — covering topics such as:
- Situational awareness
- Emergency preparedness
- Responsible reporting of concerns
- “Pause Before You Post” digital safety concepts
- Understanding the role of law enforcement in schools
They’re written to educate thoughtfully and prepare students without creating anxiety.
Staff and Administrator Support
- Threat assessment guidance
- Drill facilitation tools
- After-action review templates
- Emergency communication guidance
- Policy-aligned materials that support school leadership and unified response
Why I Share My Resources
Much of my career has been spent working alongside educators and law enforcement officers in school settings. I’ve seen strong programs succeed, well-intended efforts miss the mark, and situations where a lack of guidance created unnecessary stress or confusion.
I also know many SROs are:
- Asked to support training or instruction with limited resources
- Expected to help lead drills or conversations without much prep time
- Looking for materials that fit schools and not just patrol work
- Focused on doing right by students, staff, and their communities
If something I’ve developed can save time, improve clarity, or help a school feel better prepared, I’m happy to pass it along.
An Open, Professional Exchange
This isn’t about selling anything. It’s about sharing ideas, tools, and approaches that have proven useful and learning from one another along the way.
If you’re looking for:
A drill or exercise framework
A lesson plan or discussion guide
A starting point for a safety conversation
Or just a second set of eyes on an idea or concern
Reach out!

If I have something that fits, I’ll share it. If not, I’ll tap into my network and help you track down what you need.
Professionals helping professionals; that’s how this work gets better.
Be Safe,
Gary
