Free Tools for K12 Schools

The end of the school year is coming.

Have you reviewed and updated your EOP recently?

I am constantly contacted by school districts across the country looking for help in developing their Emergency Operation Plans and for Site Assessments. This is something I’ve done for the school district where I worked as Safety Director before my retirement and for schools across the United States.  However, both of these services cost money, something many schools cannot afford.

When I was the school Safety Director at South Western City School District, we were fortunate to have been awarded the Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Grant twice. It is amazing what a school district can accomplish working with area First Responders and $500,000! Unfortunately, such grants are no longer available; however, there are tools provided by the REMS TA Center for schools to write or update their Emergency Operations Plans (EOP) and conduct their own Site Assessments FOR FREE!

Although some consultants may view this as a poor business model, I urge all K12 districts to check out the link below:

There are tools to help schools develop and assess their EOPs.  There is an App that allows districts to conduct a Site Assessment for all of their facilities. Again, these tools are free.  I have reviewed all of their EOP tools and the Site Assess tool and they are intuitive and easy to use.  Although I was able to use the Site Assess tool on my smartphone, it is more convenient to conduct your Site Assessments with the App on a tablet.

EOPs and Site Assessments are just one of the many layers of school safety.  We at Safeguard Risk Solutions can provide training, exercises, and our Mobile Emergency Response Plan (MERP) to schools to help add more layers.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if we can ever be of assistance to your school, college, healthcare facility, or business.
