Using the Summer Months to Strengthen Emergency Plans Without Disruptions

One of the greatest advantages summer offers is space—space to improve emergency preparedness without disrupting instruction. While students are off campus, schools have a rare opportunity to focus on strengthening systems intentionally.

Summer is ideal for:

  • Updating emergency plans, contacts, and procedures
  • Aligning plans with changes in staffing or facilities
  • Conducting assessments and walkthroughs without time pressure

It’s also the best time to train key staff. Without classrooms to manage, administrators and SROs can participate in deeper discussions, scenario walkthroughs, and collaborative planning sessions that simply aren’t possible during the school year.

Modernizing Emergency Plans Before the Next School Year

Because the MERP can be quickly customized using a school’s existing emergency plans, floor plans, contacts, and procedures, schools can still easily implement the platform at the end of the school year and be fully prepared for the start of the next academic year. Instead of spending months rebuilding plans from scratch, administrators can use the summer months to refine and modernize what they already have while ensuring staff and first responders have instant access to critical information from smartphones, tablets, or computers when it matters most.

    Preparedness doesn’t improve by accident.
Summer provides the time to do it right.

As the creator of the MERP, I am also offering schools the opportunity to test drive the platform free through June 30 in preparation for the 2026–2027 school year. I will personally provide complimentary training to help your team understand how to customize, implement, and effectively use the MERP within your school or district so you can begin the new school year with updated, accessible, and easy-to-use emergency plans already in place.

Safeguard Risk Solutions supports schools through summer assessments, plan updates, and targeted training—helping teams make meaningful progress before the next year begins.
